Pretty roses.
A happy garden plot with some super happy lovage!
The giant columbine in bloom!
Hey there! The Thomas Street Garden will have two work days coming up soon, on April 23 and May 14. Both work days will start at 9 a.m. and run until some time past noon. We will have plenty of hardscaping projects to tackle, including the assembly of a new compost bin, as well as spring cleaning, perennial dividing, and other garden chores. Leave a comment below to RSVP or to ask any questions about the workdays. Bring gloves if you have them!
We had an alder removed from the garden last fall. I’m trying to restart it from seed. Wish me luck!

Community gardens taking root
Interesting article from a New Jersey news site.
“The real difference is the human component. These gardens aren’t just growing vegetables — they also grow community.”
Summer Harvest
Belatedly, I am sharing pictures of the carrots and rainbow chard harvested in mid-August. These veggies were grown from the donated seeds distributed by Greencorps in spring of 2010.

ZINNIAS!
I’m thrilled by the zinnias this year — I am happy to see bees and butterflies hanging out in this corner of the garden.
And they make wonderful flower arrangements!

Before and After
We’ve been so busy gardening that we have not had much time to write. I am excited to share some before and after shots of the garden so everyone can see how dramatically things have changed in just a few months!

Here is one of our lovely perennial beds, photographed in October. Some perennials were moved out of the way to allow room for more plantings next season. Also, there are several hostas in this bed which have been cut back and are not really visible in this photo.
